Ride and Chill is a free day of group bike rides and a festival in Franklin Park, run by the City of Boston on Sunday, October 11, 2026, from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. It is based at the Shattuck Picnic Area, and the city pitches it at riders of every level, from first-timers on balance bikes to people comfortable with a longer loop through the neighborhoods around the park.

Choose a ride

• 9 miles: through Franklin Park and the surrounding neighborhoods
• 2.5 miles: a family-friendly route
• Half-mile loop: for beginners and balance-bikers

If you would rather not ride, fitness classes run instead.

The festival

At the Shattuck Picnic Area there will be free bike programming, dance and fitness classes, a bike repair clinic, a DJ, live music and local food vendors. Children can help make art for a limited-edition Bluebikes wrap that the city says will launch in 2027, and Bluebikes credits will be handed out.

Borrowing a bike

A free bike borrowing station opens at 8 a.m. with a limited number of standard bicycles, first come, first served. To borrow one you must choose the registration ticket that includes a bike rental on the event's Eventbrite page, which the city links from its listing. Registration is free.

Good to know

The city lists the event for Dorchester, Jamaica Plain, Mattapan and Roxbury, the neighborhoods that border Franklin Park. The event is sponsored by Wayfair and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts. Dress for a fall morning and bring water; the festival runs into early afternoon.
