Anime Boston is an annual three-day convention for Japanese animation, manga, video games and related culture, held in Back Bay. The 2027 convention runs Friday, May 28 to Sunday, May 30, 2027, at the Hynes Convention Center, 900 Boylston Street, and the connected Sheraton Boston Hotel. It follows the convention's 25th-anniversary year in 2026.

What is on

The organizers plan the usual core program: a masquerade costume contest, an anime music video contest, video screening rooms, an artists' alley and art show, karaoke, game shows, video gaming, a manga library and dances. The dealers' room takes Halls C and D of the Hynes.

Hours

Anime Boston runs from early morning until late at night. Video programming runs about 20 hours a day from 8 am, panels generally start around 10 am and run through the evening, and dances go late. Things usually wind down by dinnertime on Sunday. Some late-night events are 18+ with ID checks at the door.

Badges

Everyone needs a badge. Registration for 2027 had not opened when we checked, and rates had not been posted; pre-registered attendees must show photo ID at badge pickup.

Good to know

The dates fall on Memorial Day weekend, so book Back Bay hotels early.
