The Copley Square Tree Lighting is the Boston Parks and Recreation Department's holiday lighting in Back Bay, held on Monday, November 30, 2026, from 5 to 6 pm in Copley Square Park, 560 Boylston Street. This year the city is pairing it with the grand reopening of Copley Square Park. It is free and family friendly.

The City lists music and family activities for the evening; the full program had not been published when we checked, so check the official page nearer the date.

Where it is

Copley Square is the civic heart of Back Bay, framed by Trinity Church, the Boston Public Library and the Fairmont Copley Plaza hotel, with Boylston Street shopping on one side and the Prudential Center a few blocks west. The Green Line stops at Copley station on the square.

Plan your evening

An hour-long ceremony at 5 pm leaves time for dinner in Back Bay afterward. It is one of a run of city lightings in the last week of November: the trellis at Christopher Columbus Park goes on November 23, the ship at Martin's Park on November 28, and the Boston Common Tree Lighting follows on Thursday, December 3.

Good to know

It is outdoors after sunset at the end of November, so dress warmly.
