90 Years is the Institute of Contemporary Art/Boston's anniversary exhibition, on view from October 15, 2026 to March 7, 2027 in the museum's Bridgitt and Bruce Evans and Karen and Brian Conway Galleries on the Seaport waterfront. It revisits nine exhibitions and initiatives from the museum's history to tell the story of one of the oldest museums of contemporary art in the United States.

What the show covers

The ICA was founded in 1936 as the Boston Museum of Modern Art, a sister institution to New York's MoMA, and took its current name in 1948. Over nine decades it has moved through thirteen locations. The exhibition looks back at moments such as the 1966 Andy Warhol survey, when the museum premiered a multimedia performance featuring the Velvet Underground; the 1984-1991 Contemporary Art Television Fund with WGBH, which commissioned video art from artists including Laurie Anderson and Joan Jonas; the 2006 opening of its Diller Scofidio + Renfro building and permanent collection, including a Yayoi Kusama infinity mirror room; and its 2022 commission of Simone Leigh for the U.S. Pavilion at the Venice Biennale.

Visiting

• Hours: Tuesday, Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday 10 a.m.-5 p.m.; Thursday and Friday 10 a.m.-9 p.m. Closed Mondays. The museum closes at 5 p.m. on the first Friday of each month for First Fridays, a ticketed 21-plus night.
• Admission: adults $20, seniors (65+) $17, students $15; free for 18 and under and Boston Public Schools students. Admission is free for everyone on Thursdays from 5 to 9 p.m. with an advance ticket.
• Getting there: 25 Harbor Shore Drive on the Seaport waterfront. The ICA is a short walk from World Trade Center or Courthouse stations on the Silver Line Waterfront, which you can pick up at South Station. The museum has no parking of its own.

The ICA is closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Day, all of which fall during the run.
