"Still growing and blooming": Betty, George, and Francesca Woodman runs at the Institute of Contemporary Art/Boston from April 15 to September 6, 2027. The ICA calls it the first institutional exhibition to bring together more than fifty years of work by the ceramicist Betty Woodman, the painter and photographer George Woodman, and their daughter, the photographer Francesca Woodman.

What you will see

Betty Woodman (1930-2018) is known for colorful ceramics that push the vessel toward sculpture and architecture; George Woodman (1932-2017) worked across painting, photography and installation. The exhibition sets their work beside Francesca's photographs and traces the interests the family shared, from Classical art and the nude figure to repetition, pattern and the home as a place to make art. It has a Boston-area thread too: Betty met George in a ceramics class she was teaching in Cambridge in 1950.

The show fills the Bridgitt and Bruce Evans and Karen and Brian Conway Galleries. It is organized by Ruth Erickson, the ICA's chief curator, with curatorial assistant Meghan Clare Considine, and comes with a catalogue co-published with Rizzoli.

Visiting

• Hours: Tuesday, Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday 10 a.m.-5 p.m.; Thursday and Friday 10 a.m.-9 p.m. Closed Mondays. The museum closes at 5 p.m. on the first Friday of each month for First Fridays, a ticketed 21-plus night.
• Admission: adults $20, seniors (65+) $17, students $15; free for 18 and under and Boston Public Schools students. Admission is free for everyone on Thursdays from 5 to 9 p.m. with an advance ticket.
• Getting there: 25 Harbor Shore Drive on the Seaport waterfront. The ICA is a short walk from World Trade Center or Courthouse stations on the Silver Line Waterfront, which you can pick up at South Station. The museum has no parking of its own.

The ICA closes on Patriots' Day and the Fourth of July. It opens on Memorial Day, Juneteenth and Labor Day with free admission for everyone; the final day of the exhibition, September 6, 2027, is Labor Day.
