Where should you go for New Year's Eve in Boston?
It depends on the night you want:
- With kids: First Night. In 2025 it ran from 10 a.m., with a 6 p.m. parade and family fireworks over Boston Common at 7 p.m. That's an easy way to celebrate and still get the kids to bed.
- A dressy night out: the Boston Pops at Symphony Hall at 8 p.m., then a late dinner or a drink in Back Bay.
- The countdown on the water: the midnight harbor fireworks. Boston Harbor Now suggests the Harborwalk at Fan Pier, Christopher Columbus Park and the East Boston waterfront.
- A cheap, easy night: the afternoon ice sculpture stroll, an early dinner and the 7 p.m. fireworks.
Is First Night happening in 2026?
Yes, it's an annual event, but the program for December 31, 2026, hadn't been posted as of October 19, 2026. The last edition had performances across the city, ice sculptures on City Hall Plaza, the parade, and two fireworks shows. It's free, and indoor venues are first come, first served.

How do you watch the Boston Pops on New Year's Eve?
Buy a ticket from the BSO. The 2026 concert is New Year's Eve with Samara Joy and the Boston Pops, at Symphony Hall on Thursday, December 31, at 8 p.m. The BSO describes it as a one-night-only performance that leaves time to make a countdown afterward. Tickets are sold through bso.org. I'd buy early, since it's a single show.
Where are the fireworks in Boston on New Year's Eve?
In recent years there have been two shows:
- Boston Common, early evening. At First Night 2025, the Mugar Family Fireworks went up over the Common at 7 p.m., right after the parade. Check the 2026 First Night schedule once it's posted.
- The Inner Harbor, at midnight. For 2026, Boston Harbor Now lists the midnight fireworks over the harbor between the North End and East Boston, presented by First Night Boston and Conventures.
What's the Ice Sculpture Stroll?
It's Boston Harbor Now's free trail of dozens of ice sculptures, hosted by businesses and landmarks along the waterfront. It returns for its 14th year on December 31, 2026, from 1 to 5 p.m.
Boston Harbor Now lists sculptures in East Boston, Charlestown, Downtown, South Boston, the Seaport and Revere, and says more details and a map are coming. Nearby T stops include Courthouse (Silver Line), Aquarium and Maverick (Blue Line), Haymarket and South Station.
Where should you eat on New Year's Eve in Boston?
Book as early as you can. When you reserve, ask whether there is a set menu and what it costs.
A few ways to narrow it down:
- Before the Pops, eat in Back Bay or near Symphony Hall so you aren't rushing across town.
- Before the midnight fireworks, eat in the North End or on the waterfront, then walk to Christopher Columbus Park.

How do you get around Boston on New Year's Eve?
Take the T and skip the car. Streets near the events close or restrict parking.
For December 31, 2025, the MBTA made subway, bus, ferry and The RIDE fare-free from 8 p.m., made Commuter Rail free on trains to and from North and South Station from 8 p.m., and ran last trains between 1:45 and 2:50 a.m., depending on the line, according to Boston.com.
The 2026 plan will be at mbta.com/holidays. Transit police said they won't tolerate drinking on the T.
