Coffee by the pound

The coffee range covers regular, decaffeinated, flavored, organic and specialty beans, including rarer coffees such as Blue Mountain and Hawaiian Kona. The shop says the old favorites still sell best: Mr. Polcari's house blend, a mixture of dark and light roasts, and the Italian roast, an espresso.

Spices, beans and Italian sweets

The store says it supplies fresh, rare spices to North End chefs. Its online catalog gives a sense of the shelves: cinnamon sticks, gigante beans and split fava beans, roasted Italian chickpeas (ceci), Italian confetti almonds, and baking oils such as anise, lemon and orange. Loose teas, bulk and decaffeinated, have their own section.

A family business, carried on

The Polcaris ran the store as a family: Anthony's wife Rose and their children Ralph, Anthony and Marie all worked behind the counter, and Ralph later took it over. The current owner, Bobby Eustace, worked alongside Ralph for twenty-six years, agreed in 2005 to take the business on, and became sole proprietor after Ralph died. He describes himself as a museum keeper, running the shop with the Polcari family in mind.

Ordering after the trip
