The Colonnade opened on Huntington Avenue in 1971 and has never changed hands: Bertram Druker built it, and his son Ronald still owns it. Its 285 rooms have floor-to-ceiling windows that open, and on the roof sits the RTP, a seasonal pool and bar that the hotel bills as the only rooftop pool in the city.

It suits summer visitors who want a pool afternoon without leaving town, dog and cat owners, and anyone holding tickets at Symphony Hall, the Huntington Theatre or the Hynes Convention Center. The hotel sits on Back Bay's southern edge across Huntington Avenue from the Prudential Center, and its south-facing rooms look over the brownstones of the South End. The Prudential stop on the Green Line is directly outside the front door, and Back Bay station for Amtrak and the Orange Line is a few blocks away.

Rooms and views

Standard rooms run about 350 square feet, and the Luxe and Premier Luxe categories sit on higher floors, the latter at 370 square feet with skyline views. Residential View rooms face the South End rather than the Prudential towers. The nine suites, including Parlor King Suites of about 700 square feet, add a separate living and dining room. Every tub comes with a rubber duck, and accessible rooms offer roll-in showers or tubs with seats.

The rooftop pool

The RTP is open in summer, weather permitting, with cabanas, loungers and a menu of small plates and cocktails twelve floors above the street. Space is first come, first served, which matters on hot weekends. Hotel guests get entry through the daily facilities fee; the public can pay to get in on some days, and after 5 p.m. it is 21 and over for non-guests. The 2026 season has ended and the pool reopens in 2027. An elevator and a chair lift make it accessible.

Traveling with pets

Through its VIPets program the hotel accepts cats and dogs in select rooms, with a bed, bowls, three brands of food and locally made treats. It also offers free audio-guided walking routes through Back Bay and the Fens, including two written for walks with a dog.

LUCIE drink + dine adjoins the hotel on Huntington Avenue and calls itself a local bar with a global kitchen.
