Boston has no single "Ultimate Dessert Tour": the one dedicated guided dessert walk is Cocktails & Cannoli, a North End tour that pairs cannoli and gelato with cocktails. The easier option is a self-guided dessert walk: Boston cream pie at the Omni Parker House, chocolates on Charles Street in Beacon Hill, then the North End's old bakeries and cafes on Hanover and Salem streets.
Below is a route you can walk in an afternoon, what to order at each stop, and the guided tours that are actually running.

Start with Boston cream pie
Boston cream pie, a sponge cake filled with custard and topped with chocolate, is the official dessert of Massachusetts, and the Omni Parker House credits its own kitchen and chef Augustine Anezin, hired in 1865, with creating it. The hotel still serves it in Parker's Restaurant on School Street, on the Freedom Trail, which makes it a natural first stop.
Chocolates on Charles Street
Beacon Hill Chocolates has been at 91 Charles Street since 2006. Its truffle case holds more than 100 kinds, sourced from small chocolatiers in Europe, Brazil and the United States, and its handmade keepsake boxes travel well as gifts. The nearest station is Charles/MGH on the Red Line. Note that the Tatte branch on Charles Street was listed as temporarily closed when we checked.
The North End bakeries
The North End is where a Boston dessert walk earns its name. Modern Pastry, family-owned for more than 90 years, fills its cannoli to order and makes its own torrone, an Italian nougat. Across Hanover Street, Caffe Vittoria opened in 1929 and calls itself the first Italian cafe in Boston; it is anything but a secret, so go for a late gelato or spumoni rather than at peak afternoon. Mike's Pastry, founded in 1946, is the famous name and the longest line. Around the corner, Bova's Bakery has been family-run since 1926 and is open 24 hours, which makes it the answer to a midnight cannoli. The nearest T stop is Haymarket on the Orange and Green lines.
A practical tip: buy one cannoli at two different bakeries and compare them side by side. The shells and the sweetness of the ricotta differ more than you would expect.
Guided dessert and food tours in Boston
- Cocktails & Cannoli: a North End dessert walk with cannoli, gelato and cocktails including an espresso martini, plus a look at the Old North Church. Public tours are limited from November to March; private tours run year-round. Tripadvisor listed it at $125 per person in September 2026. Because cocktails are included, check the age policy when you book.
- Off the Eaten Path: a three-hour North End progressive lunch, running since 2012 and led by its founder, that is savory first but includes classic sweets along the way.

A Back Bay alternative
If you are staying in Back Bay, two stops make a shorter sweet walk: Flour Bakery + Cafe at 131 Clarendon St, open from 7 a.m. on weekdays and 8 a.m. on weekends, and J.P. Licks ice cream at 173 Newbury St, open until 11 p.m. daily.
