Battery Wharf Hotel stands on the harbor edge of the North End, on a wharf whose story begins with a shoreline battery built in 1646 and passes through Joseph Warren Revere, Paul Revere's son, who acquired the wharf rights in 1831. The old wharf was demolished in 2001 to make way for the hotel and residences, and an 1890s seawall still lies beneath the present structure.
