What is pouring

The draft lines rotate daily, so the chalkboard on the wall is the list that counts, with a dedicated Guinness line as the one constant. The printed bottle list runs by style, from pale ales and hazy IPAs to pilsners and lagers, and it puts breweries from Massachusetts, Maine and Vermont next to national and European names. If you cannot decide, ask for a spin of the Wheel of Indecision, which might land on a pricey large-format bottle, two drafts mixed together or, as the bar warns, a non-alcoholic beer.

The food

The kitchen cooks pub food until late: burgers on a 4 oz flat patty, with turkey or veggie patties as alternatives, a peanut butter burger the menu insists you trust, hot dogs, steak and chicken bombs, a vegan three-bean chili and tater tots in several forms, including poutine-style. Burgers come with fries, chips or mashed potatoes; the menu is firm that tots and onion rings are not a side option.

The room and the regulars

Music comes from a turntable behind the bar, spinning the house record collection and whatever the staff bring in. There is no live music and the staff take no requests, though several TVs carry the game. Regulars work through the Mug Club card, which one drinker has to finish within six months to earn a personal mug. Bukowski runs a second tavern in Cambridge, and mugs do not transfer between the two.
